Exodus for SATB Choir and Piano
Lyrics by Samuel Reese
Duration: 3:40 minutes
Exodus was originally written as a project for my Music Technology class, requiring an approximately two minute atmospheric piece which I wrote for string orchestra and piano. Tempo was meant to feel liberated, or even nonexistent, and it is for this reason that this work should push and pull against the tempo constantly, conjuring the dissonances and resolutions of whatever the moment desires. The lyrics were added by my friend and colleague Samuel Reese, who is not only a master of loquaciousness, but also a brilliant lyricist. Writing lyrics for music is much more difficult than writing music for lyrics, but Sam has proven his exceptional skills yet again in this beautiful setting for choir and piano.
